I would have posted this for open post monday but this will have to due. Its a politically related sort of hypothetical: if we remove the issue of slavery (so that ethical considerations don't play as much of a role here) would you rather live under the USA or the Confederacy?
I would like to live under a more confderate style government over a national centralized one.
ReplyDeletethe further the government is removed from me (geographicly, politically, finically, and so on) the less the government represents me. I live in oregon, beaverton to be exact. The mayor of beaverton knows more about my situation here than does the president or even the congressmen of oregon. Its easier for someone to represent 90,000 people than it is to represent 300 million. Thats way the national government in washington can't understand my needs as a citizen as well as say my neighbor or mayor.
The national government has its uses. it allows our military to be stronger (although thats questionable on the use of a standing army) The standardization of things, such as roads and signs and width of railroads and other things makes a national government useful. but i caution the over use of national government. Top down ruling is very dangerous and limits room for new ideas. I'll leave it there for now, to see what you have to say.
which one would you choose, USA or Confederacy?
